Sixteen netball teams from all across the state came together at the Rockingham Outdoor Netball Courts on July the 18th as Rocky Ora Netball Club in conjunction with Moana Pasifika Inc hosted Perth's Inaugural Pacific Unity Womens Netball Tournament 2009.
One of the main objectives of the event was to promote cultural harmony and recognition within the Polynesian and Indigenous communities and we would like to congratulate all of the participants for being great ambassadors for your clubs and a part of such a successful event.
All 16 teams took on their opponents in sunshine and rain to battle through 7 rounds of competitive netball. In the Social Division final, league ladder leaders Raro Taitains prepared to take on the fierce and firey Phoenix for top spot. In Division One Tainui versus Woola Woola Koolunga West Coasters (WWKWC) was set to be the show down of the tournament with both teams demonstrating flare, skill and talent which showed why both teams were successful in reaching the grand final.
A rain storm threatened to see both teams go head to head in the wet, until Donna from the Rockingham District Netball Assocation came to the rescue and offered to host the Grand finals indoors. Congratulations to Woola Woola Koolunga West Coasters winners of the $1000 prize monies for Division One and to Raro Taitains taking out the $600 prize monies for the Social Division.
